We fight cancer.
The UCSD Moore's Cancer Outreach Team is a university-sanctioned club. We are a dedicated team of UC San Diego students who volunteer to improve the health of the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community.
Our mission is to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality among the API community through outreaching at Asian grocery stores.

We've helped reduce the rates of cancer among the API community. |
Since 1994, the Cancer Outreach Team has helped decrease the rates of breast cancer in the San Diego API community following a grocery store based education module. This technique was then applied to other health issues such as colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and liver cancer.
|
With Dr. Sadler as our program mentor, we have reached almost 11 thousand API members of the San Diego community just for the breast cancer module. The San Diego death rate for API women with breast cancer went from the highest to the lowest in California in 24 years. There are two dozen peer-reviewed publications supporting why and how this program works.
